The Machine Stops

This was a university project. We were given the short story “The Machine Stops” by British novelist E.M. Foster and tasked with reinventing its outlook by artistically representing it using typography only. We were also asked to use the story in its entirety.

I opted to design small squared cards, each with custom designs inspired by the page’s content and its highlights.

The story is about a machine slowly “dying”, so the more the machine gets closer to stopping, the more confusing and hard to read the cards get.
