machine stops
For this project, we were given the short story “The Machine Stops” by British novelist E.M Foster. The requirements were for us to be reinventing the novel’s esthetic by finding a new way of showcasing it. The medium was free of choice, but we were forbidden from using any type of imagery. We, in fact, were asked to do a purely typographical work using the entire novel given. For mine, I decided to design small squared cards. Each one has a different design focusing on highlighting the most important parts of the written piece on the page. On the back of each card I have written the number of sequences so that if mixed up, there is an easy way or re-organizing them. The more the machine gets closer to dying, the more confusing and hard to read it gets.
