the obj project
As one of my final projects for my Graphic Design degree, we were given a brief asking for us to choose an object, hack it and to give it a new purpose through a set of instructions created by us. I although wanted to take it more conceptual, and decided to focus on the value we as people give to objects. Taking inspiration from Marie Kondo, the Minimalists and the LATCH organizational system, I decided to create my own set of criterion and instructions to give to people, so that they could evaluate the value they give to objects.I, therefore, created some surveys and developed my instructions, which I then designed “IKEA” style as I thought it fit the theme perfectly.
After settling on the instructions, I decided to invite 6 of my closest friends to a home-built studio and to ask them to bring 6 objects following the instructions I had given them. Once on set. I then gave them the following set of instructions, according to which they re-organized their objects. Each time they had re-organized their objects I took a photograph.
